Every day on Indian roads, we witness some horrific accidents, and some of them are as extreme as this incident in Surat, Gujarat. A loaded container truck toppled onto a Mahindra XUV700, yet miraculously, the occupants of the vehicle emerged unharmed. Here are the details:
According to reports, the container truck was purportedly carrying a load, though the exact contents and weight remain unknown. The truck was undergoing repairs on the roadside when the hydraulic jack supporting it gave way.
The container truck tipped over, engulfing the passing XUV700 underneath. Multiple pictures depict the XUV700 bearing the weight of the truck, yet it remarkably remained somewhat intact. The vehicle’s pillars eventually gave way and collapsed, but they still managed to withstand the truck’s weight.
The occupants of the car emerged safely from the ordeal. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in this incident, though details about the number of passengers in the car at the time of the accident remain unavailable.
Can accidents like this be avoided? Realistically, not entirely. However, one can exercise extra caution when driving alongside heavy vehicles such as trucks. Quick overtaking manoeuvres can minimize the time spent beside these massive vehicles, potentially reducing the risk of such incidents.
Mahindra XUV700 has 5-star rating
The new SUV from Mahindra has clinched the ‘Safer Choice’ award from Global NCAP, owing to its exceptional performance in the crash tests conducted by the agency. The Mahindra XUV700 had become the second car in Mahindra’s history to achieve a complete five-star rating. The SUV received these crash test ratings based on the previous rules, which did not include a side crash test.
The Mahindra XUV700 was awarded a five-star rating by Global NCAP, scoring an impressive 16.03 out of a possible 17 points. Additionally, the car’s structure was deemed stable. The crash test also indicated that the potential injuries to the front passengers were marginal. Notably, when subjected to child safety tests, the car received the highest points ever for any made-in-India car, achieving a rating of 41.66 out of a maximum of 49. The bodyshell and footwell area of the Mahindra XUV700 were assessed as stable.
This cumulative score secured by the XUV700 stands as the highest among all the cars tested in Global NCAP’s ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign. This remarkable performance earned the XUV700 a full 5-star rating. Interestingly, the Scorpio-N achieved an even higher score than the XUV700, undergoing tests with the new, more stringent protocols as compared to earlier standards.
