EXCLUSIVE: Brave Books and Kirk Cameron Launch Into TV: 'The Adventures With Iggy and Mr. Kirk'


After the success of the 2023 “See You At the Library” events and launching the grassroots movement of parents and engaged citizens hosting Story Hours across the nation, Brave Books is moving into an exciting and pivotal direction: Children’s TV.

“Adventures With Iggy and Mr. Kirk” is part live-action, part animation, and all wholesome content. Think “Mr. Rogers” meets “Sesame Street” meets “Blue’s Clues.” I had a brief conversation with Christian actor,  activist, and Brave Books partner Kirk Cameron about this new venture scheduled to premiere in the Summer of 2024.

It’s live action combined with animation. It’s got timeless biblical moral values that will be pro God, pro America, and we address issues that Mr. Rogers never had to deal with. He didn’t have to deal with critical race theory. He wasn’t dealing with gender-bending ideas and having to remind boys that, you know, you, can’t get pregnant. These are the kinds of things that we have to teach kids today, though, and that’s why I think it’s utterly unique and it may be the most important project I’ve ever worked on. So we’re really excited about it.

Cameron is correct: Mr. Rogers never had to worry about pronouns or explaining what a drag queen was. So, “Adventures With Iggy and Mr. Kirk” will fill a void and directly combat the agenda to normalize and keep these LGBTQ+ issues front and center in children’s education.

Cameron is joined by Leigh-Allyn Baker, who played the mom on the Disney Channel show “Good Luck Charlie.” Like Cameron, Baker saw pitfalls resident in a career in Hollywood and made the choice to prioritize roles that centered around faith, family, and American values.

Brave Books founder and CEO Trent Talbot said of this venture,

Not only will it entertain young audiences, but it will also foster character development and reinforce biblical values with every episode. From the sanctity of life to kindness and courage, each 22-minute adventure serves as a platform for teaching important life lessons to kids.

Cameron gives more details on why, after combating the American Library Association and calling out Scholastic for its hypocrisy, Brave sees this as a critical time to launch a children’s television series.

The power of storytelling, the allure of puppets, coupled with characters from the Brave Books’ Freedom Island series that many children now see as friends, sounds like a potent alchemy that will draw conservative audiences and beyond and, ultimately, influence an entire generation of children for years to come.

We don’t want to just fight in the culture war, we we want good values to win, and in order for them to win, we need more and more people to join in this army of compassion and good values, and get in the fight. So, to be able to collaborate with more creatives, yes, it’s very encouraging, it’s exciting. Well, we’re not only making good content, good entertainment, but we really are making a difference in the culture and securing the future for our kids.

Taking a feather from the cap of “The Chosen,” which used crowdfunding to mount its production and garner its audience, Brave Books is seeking a similar partnership with its Brave Army. Brave is offering 13 tiers of participation, from Insider to VIP to producer. Brave plans to do two seasons’ worth of content (20 episodes), and each 22-minute episode is estimated to cost in the neighborhood of $125,000. Brave aims to raise $2,500,000 to assemble a top-tier creative team, from scriptwriters to set designers, directors, producers, cinematographers, and editors.
